The annual Grahamstown National Arts Festival will be taking over the City of Saints from the 2nd July 2015 to 12th July 2015. One thing is clear: the adult population will definitely be taken care of. However, what are the kids who are not going to be able to stay up late for shows or even get in others get up to during Fest?
Well, according to Nicci Hughes, who is responsible for coordinating Arts Festival activities for Victoria Girls High School, there will be quite a lot of entertainment staged by VG learners on offer for young audiences.
“We are lucky enough to have had 10 of our girls invited to join Dance Forum in their production The Last Attitude, which appears on the main dance programme,” Hughes said.
She adds that the VG school choir and a number of the school’s music students will form part of the opening ceremony for School’s Fest, which focuses on exposing learners to the arts. The School’s Fest will be celebrating its 20th birthday and this year’s opening programme will feature local and international musicians. Some of these performing artists’ names have not been released or confirmed yet which should present a surprise for the attendees.
VG’s Drama students will also be involved in street theatre which is an initiative they came up with after attending a workshop on street theatre.
Learners who will be on holiday during the duration of the School’s Fest and the National Arts Festival are invited to treat themselves to a great time.
